Crazy busy the last two weeks. Lots more done on the house.
Got most of the lower deck rebuilt. Had to get it done before the excavator comes and helps us with some needed regrading. That’s the deck where the hot tub used to be and I had to re-build some of the structure as well as re-design it a bit - more on that later.
The painters showed up on Monday and washed the whole exterior of the house, but then I didn’t see them for the rest of the week because of the rain every day. I was hoping they’d be halfway done by now. Oh well.
The new overhead garage door was installed on Thursday. More on that later too.
Tile in the upstairs hall is complete. Bathroom is almost done - just a bunch of details and painting to do.
But here’s the big news: The kitchen is done. Yesss! Except for some minor details, completed and cleaned up this evening! What existed only in my imagination over a year ago is now a reality. It was painful to put it on hold for a year with it only half done! A lot of experience and detailed planning went into it - definitely worth it. It turned out great.
I didn’t just remodel the old kitchen, I redesigned the entire space from scratch. The original kitchen was in a slightly different location, so the new one had to be designed starting from a new space plan incorporatiing changes to the rest of the interior, changes to the structure, and all new mechanicals as well. It’s modern, of course, and has a few of my own little details to kind of make it more sculptural and give it more style. It’s definitely a cook’s kitchen, but it shows well too and transitions nicely into the rest of the house which is very authentic looking Prairie Style.
Here are some pictures. (Sorry about the bad shots but my camera doesn’t take good nightime photos.)

The only other interesting thing that happened hereabouts last week was the crop duster helicoptor flying over low, zigzagging back and forth spraying for gypsy moths. Got to protect these oaks!!
