I really love these long days! When I can work by daylight, I’m have much more energy and can go all day. And I sleep better at night and need less of it. I’m getting tons of exercise just working on the house and other jobs, and am getting to be in better overall shape than I’ve been in years. As long as I take care of my back and am not out of commission for weeks at a time, I think I’ll even be able to get rid of those last fifteen pounds I need to shed. I’ve already lost about fifteen or so this year and feel much better and have much more stamina.
If I feel this good after the first 15, I know I’ll feel much better after the second 15.
Despite my wife always telling my how “old” I am, and how fat I am, like somehow it’s permanent (?? though I never got over 185, I used to be really trim — I was a swimmer in high school) I’m staying motivated and really want to get to my ideal weight which is between 155 and 160.
Anyhow, I’m not looking forward to the days getting shorter again after June. Although the silver lining will be that when the house is done this Summer, I’ll have a lot more time for music. Although the Frau seems happier these days when I’m not making a lot of noise in the evenings playing my violin (she hates the racket and always starts slamming things when I practice, completely befuddling my concentration), just wait until Fall and the music season starts again! And now I’ll have a separate, more isolated room to pracrice in when my daughter goes back to college! My music agenda is pretty ambitious for Fall!
I’ve pretty much put my music career on hold for many years - you know, kids and having to make money and stuff - and now it’s time to get back on the music track again, which is still how I think of myself. When people ask me what I do, I still say I’m a musician. “Who knows? Maybe I’m deluded! but then, who cares?
So once I get in shape, I need to stay in shape. Next Winter I’ll have to find ways of keeping in shape other than doing construction work.
Thinking of buying some kind of exercise machine. Anybody have any suggestions other than stationary bicycles? Treadmills, elliptical machines?
