What’s gotten done on the house since last week?

Here’s that little retaining wall I mentioned a couple of posts ago:

“Little” doesn’t describe the amound of hand digging and sweat it took! Also, the plumbing is done and the leak fixed (also mentioned previously), drywall is patched, but still has to be mudded and textured for the upper part.

Granite for the raised hearth is installed:

Everybody is using the new kitchen like crazy, frying and all, so I made sure I got a second coat of sealer into the gorut on the tile backsplash, otherwise it will discolor quickly and be impossible to clean.

Okay, I’m gonna throw out a stereotype here: house painters have no taste in music. All I heard all day was Rolling Stones (blech!!) and old ’70s rock kind of stuff - and not the good stuff - stuff house painters like.

But they’re doin’ a good job. Not great. Good. Well, the price is right, and we’re running out of dough. Yeah, I know — maybe I set the bar too high. Anyhow, the coppery color looks great!

Had to do a lot of work in the “yard” this week. The path was getting completely overgrown.

My son went out last week and bought a gas weed-whacker. It does a much better job that the sissy electric one I brought from our old house in Oak Park.

And lastly, I’ve been milling, staining and installing miles - it seems - of wood trim. Another mile or so to go.
