Fireflies and Bats

I don’t know how to adequately describe this, but our back yard, which is actually a small woodland, is filled with fireflies. It’s about 11 P.M., dark and very quiet except for a slight wind in the treetops, and it looks like thousands of blinking Christmas lights strung up from the ground to the tops of the trees.

And then the bats, which can only be seen occasionally against the moonlit sky, eerily quiet unless one flies within a few feet of you - then you can hear the wing beats - are fluttering around, probably feasting on the fireflies. Wish I could somehow take nighttime photographs. It’s just plain awesome.
