Just Bugs and Porches and Stuff

August 8th, 2008 No Comments

This little fellow was flying around the house.  It took a while to catch it without harming it, to let it go outside.  Didn’t think this picture would turn out.  Beautiful creature!

Everything on the house is all finally coming together.  The front walkway and landing/deck were finished by late yesterday.  Overall, the construction of the platform only took me [...]

Remodeling Marathon - Part 9

August 6th, 2008 No Comments

For about a week and a half now, I’ve been putting in 12 to 14 hour days on the house.  I’m reeallly tired!  I’m trying very hard not to get bogged down in too many details and just get the big jobs done. Of course the details are important too, but there are so [...]

Passed! - No, Not a Kidney Stone

July 11th, 2008 No Comments

Building inspector showed up this afternoon. He’s better…it wasn’t terminal. Nice guy. Passed me, no problem. Said he loved the design of the kitchen - and bath. Very unique, never saw anything quite like it, he said - it looks ‘like in a magazine”. Then he asked who [...]

I love the new paint job in the early morning sun. And the colors are great! I just can’t stop looking at it…and photographing it…

June 22nd, 2008 1 Comment

There is nothing so fine as shellac. That amber glow is inimitable. It’s fun to apply — once you get the hang of it. It’s one of the oldest and most beautiful finishes around, and it’s “green” too! Why more people don’t use it, I just don’t know!
Started shellacking at about [...]

What’s gotten done on the house since last week?
Here’s that little retaining wall I mentioned a couple of posts ago:

“Little” doesn’t describe the amound of hand digging and sweat it took! Also, the plumbing is done and the leak fixed (also mentioned previously), drywall is patched, but still has to be mudded and textured [...]

Long Day

June 11th, 2008 No Comments

Well it turned out to be a long day. Starting with helicoptors flying over head in the early monrning. Then the painteres showed up early and I had to put on my carpenter hat and do some exterior wood replacement while they had the ladders up.
I’m no longer fond of being on ladders, [...]

Remodeling Marathon - Part 6

June 7th, 2008 No Comments

Crazy busy the last two weeks. Lots more done on the house.
Got most of the lower deck rebuilt. Had to get it done before the excavator comes and helps us with some needed regrading. That’s the deck where the hot tub used to be and I had to re-build some of the [...]

Easin’ on Down the Road

May 26th, 2008 No Comments

Easing on down the road, my daughter’s room is almost finished - and the first room in the house that will be completely done (well, almost — except for the closet and the drawers and door for the built-in dresser).

Did you think that when I said it was going to be a Prairie style house [...]
